Here i have for sale is a 1951-53 zenith h500 5h40 trans-oceanic radio. It does work, but will/should be recapped before long term use. Someone crudely spliced in a new cord. Overall the case is in okay condition for its age. It very solid though the vinyl does have some flaws in a few spots. A very good unit for restoration.

Makes a loud humming noise when turned on, not tested and further.

Note: untested, no electricity applied. Electronics should be tested. Proper application of power to radio should be done to test tubes, capacitors and resistors. Vintage ZENITH Trans Oceanic Wave Magnet H500 Tube Radio WORKS! All the knobs and buttons are in good condition, there are no cracks in any of the plastic parts, and the cabinet is in sound condition, antenna working perfectly.

The item for sale today is a Vintage Zenith TransOceanic Tube Radio. It was made in the 1950s and the model of the chassis is 5H40. The radio is used and does have quite a bit of wear from previous use and old age. The radio does turn on and works. The tuning knob is broken and you are unable to change the station. The whole unit could could use a good cleaning. The power plug in the back of the radio is fraying just a bit and could be replaced. Other than that, the radio is in decent condition for how old it is. The radio will need some work on it. Beautiful early 1950s short wave radio! Please take a look at the included photos and let me know if you have questions. Marked on the front of the case Zenith Trans Oceanic. Power cord in good condition. Also included red cord for antenna?? Measures 17″ long by 7 1/2″ wide by 11 high. Looks to be in very good condition… Some signs of wear from years of use but a gorgeous, solid piece! I turned it on and was able to tune to a few stations. Sounds fine and both tuner and volume knobs function as they should. Antenna extends and appears fully intact (I did not attempt to extend fully, but see photo of extended antenna for how high I went with it). Antique 1950s zenith trans-oceanic shortwave radio. Its a multi-band, but the bottom channel is the only one where any stations were picked up. The rest of it is staticky. Despite the fact that I cleaned it its still dirty. Outer case is worn to an extent and there are scratches and imperfections as you would expect from something this old. Tuner knob is a bit loose and sometimes the antenna likes to sink down in the hole. In good overall shape for its age.
