A fairly common radio rarely found in this condition. Radios this nice and original are a rare find. The original finish is beautiful right down to the perfect decal. The grille / bezel is made of Tenite. A material that is almost always showing warpage. This one is perfect! . This grille is excellent and the best example I’ve seen. The cardboard back looks like new. The chassis is clean and retains all original Philco features. There is a hairline crack in the plastic lens cover, virtually unnoticeable. This radio has been serviced and plays great. No hum and great volume. 13″W x 7-1/2″H x 6-1/2D. This pre-war table model features a right front dial panel with the famous “red pointer” dial indicator and plastic grille with horizontal louvers. Uses six tubes, has three knobs, carrying handle and feet. It receives broadcast and shortwave. Tenite grille in excellent condition. 13-1/2″W x 9″H x 7D. This quintessential wooden Philco radio was manufactured the year the USA was attacked by the Japanese and entered WWII. With beautiful veneers and contrasting ivory bezel, handle, knobs and trim, it really catches the eye. The chevron veneer in the front is just stunning and makes this radio a standout among those of the era. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. It retains the original stain, which was rejuvenated and nourished. The bottom trim and handle were repainted ivory. Then, seven coats of clear lacquer were applied to the entire cabinet. Finally, it was given a coat of a high quality. Beeswax/orange oil polish/wax to further bring out the beauty and protect the wood. The dial face has crisp and clear graphics and is nicely lighted. The dial cover is new. The knobs and bezel are original and were polished. The back cover is in excellent condition. There is a discoloration to the top left as can be seen in the photos. That is part of this radio’s life since being made 78 years ago. Otherwise, the cabinet is in excellent condition. A new “PHILCO” decal was applied. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna. With somewhat of a bold stance, this smaller radio is very attractive and collectible. Now that it is restored, it will continue to provide reliable enjoyment for many more years if well cared for. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good working order. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off.
