At FIRST glance, this radio might APPEAR to be chocolate Bakelite – but upon close inspection, you can see that it is CATALIN, which has been discolored over the decades. When viewed in good light, (these photos were taken outside, in sunlight) you can still see the dark green and cream, “marbleized” swirl. More visible on the top & underside, than on the other parts of the case. This radio looks to be a good candidate for restoring. There are NO significant chips or cracks in the Catalin radio case. I admit that I’m NOT an expert in this area, but I’ll do my best to describe this properly. A metal part, inside the radio, is marked: EMERSON. ” A small paper label reads: “S. ” I’ve seen very similar looking radios listed as “AU-190 – I’m not sure what the difference is. The BACK is not present, but as near as I can tell, the INSIDES are complete. I HAVE NOT TESTED IT. The cloth covered cord is frayed and has visibly exposed wire – to be honest, I’m afraid to plug it in! The thin plastic celluloid? Face cover is discolored and foggy. You can barely see inside it, but I CAN see that the station indicating needle is present and responds properly when the center dial / knob it turned. The cloth speaker cover appears to be original and has a small frayed spot near the bottom / right corner. All 3 knobs look to be original. As mentioned above, except for the darkened color, the Catalin body is nice. It has some surface scratches, but no serious chips, cracks or melt marks. The radio measures 10 & 1/4 inches tall.
