This amplifier is in fair cosmetic condition, but certainly not perfect. The cabinets paint looks original, but has quite a few scuffs on it. The lid is slightly bent inwards, but can probably be straightened back into shape. All controls turn smoothly. Overall, the amp is fairly dirty but should clean up reasonably well with some time and effort. The amp includes two Cetron 811A tubes and two Electronic Enterprise 811A tubes, all of which appear to be in good shape without a “bulls-eye” on the plates, but they are still untested with no guarantees. After nearly eight years in business, we’ve made the decision to no longer test vintage equipment that’s been sitting idle for long periods of time. I apologize for this, but we’ve simply encountered too many problems. But that doesn’t necessarily mean this is a junker! We have no idea when this radio was last used. It was found in storage and is dirty and dusty, as you can hopefully see in the photos. I’m certainly not a Collins guru, but it does appear to be electronically correct and modified (please correct me if I’m wrong). You may not be able to see in the photos, but all standard crystals under the chassis are present. The cabinet, while very straight and free of dents, does appear to have been repainted at some point. All in all, this looks like a great piece for restoration. Also, the serial number tag has fallen off. We hope it finds it way to a good home that’ll give it whatever attention it may need! This is a nice Collins amplifier. It was acquired from a ham who is in the process of downsizing his massive collection. We’ve been playing with for about an hour now and have been pleased with it’s performance. It’s in good cosmetic condition with minimal wear; the faceplate looks very good. It has four new-production 811 tubes installed Chinese? , and keyed-down on 40 meters with 50 watts of drive we’re getting about 500 watts out. The amp is currently wired for 120VAC, and the power supply appears to be all original. A reproduction manual is included. However, there isn’t much room to work with on these 30L-1 amplifiers, and I simply cannot get the bottom tubes out. I apologize for this. I’ve placed layers of thin foam around all the tubes, so they should be OK. Just be sure to remove the foam and ensure all tubes are properly seated in their sockets before using the amplifier. This is a very early 75S-1, serial number 178. Aside from the serial number, you can also tell this is an early unit by the “ribbed” design of the meter’s bezel. The faceplate looks good and appears to be all original, however the cabinet has been repainted (somewhat crudely). The power cord has been replaced and fixed in place, although we’re not sure how as we haven’t removed the receiver from the cabinet. The bad news is that the receiver has problems. It receives no signal whatsoever, even from the crystal calibrator. On top of that, whenever you tap the cabinet or chassis, you get a ringing tone. The sound is similar to what you’d hear from a microphonic tube. However, we don’t think a tube is causing the problem. This is a good working receiver. We cleaned up some contacts and controls with electrical contact cleaner, but that’s about all we had to do. It receives a strong signal and sounds great. I don’t believe the Collins logo on the front is original, and ther serial number we documented (8173) is the number stamped on the back of the chassis. As you can see in the photos, the receiver includes to top and bottom covers, which is a nice bonus as these are usually missing. Also included in the sale is a modern production frequency chart for the drum, as well as a reproduction of the user manual! Please realize that this is a. Piece of equipment, and unless specifically noted above, it has not been fully restored with new components.
