Here’s one you don’t see every day. And aren’t likely to see ever again, for that matter. This listing is for a pre-war Musicaire tabletop tube radio. Extensive research has revealed that this is highly likely to be a 1938 model 5T27, made by either Sentinel or Detrola for the home and automotive hardware store, Coast to Coast’s house brand, Musicaire. The radio appears to be similar to the Sentinel 72A. For anyone interested in helping to solve another mystery, there are a number of identifying stamps on the bottom of the set that appear to at least indicate the radio’s factory of origin. I can make out a few letters, but not enough to imply anything more than what has already been mentioned. If you have more info regarding this radio, I would love to hear from you. This particular set is in very nice, original, physical condition. I believe that even the finish has been preserved. Everything looks to have been very well taken care of. My guess is that a fresh set of capacitors (recapping) would eliminate the hum and restore the set for regular use. I would love to find this radio a new home where it will be cherished. It’s a beautiful relic of late 1930s America that deserves to be preserved and protected for at least another 87 years to come!
