Vintage GR 1931-B General Radio tube-type AM mod monitor

An old amplitude modulation broadcast monitor by GR in Cambridge, Mass. Best guess is 1958 for date of origin on this unit. It may be that it was once in a rack shelf or other rack-compatible exo-unit – note the fittings on the left and right sides of the face panel. These are well-made vintage historical pieces, and the 1931-B is no exception. Has a 600-ohm audio monitor connection. The unit powers up; no I/O tests were performed. It’s close to complete, but not quite – you’d need a 2050 tube and an OD3 to fill out the tube complement; each of those types is common and available from multiple vendors. It appears mostly original, with perhaps a few parts and modifications performed over the years. The chassis is dinged up a bit around its lower edges. Beautiful Vintage Hammarlund HXL-1 Tube-Type Amateur Radio Linear Amplifier

Beautiful classic Hammarlund HXL-1 linear amplifier in excellent working condition. This amplifier is from a local estate. You will see a small brass plaque on the front towards the bottom that says Leonard E. Len was a lifelong ham who owned and operated Walker Radio (now Walker Electronic Supply) in Albuquerque for many years. 20, 15, & 10 meters this grounded-grid amplifier uses two 572B tubes. This amplifier sat on a shelf collecting dust for many years — one of the pictures shows how dusty it was when I removed it from its cabinet. The amplifier contains an internal T-R relay and biases the 572B tubes completely off in standby so that there is no “shot” noise coming from conducting finals. First made in 1964, this is a very stable, very easy to use, very efficient amplifier. This amplifier makes full power with ease. It was removed from service many years ago when Len died. I brought it up very slowly over a week from zero to full 240 volts in order to preserve the good working condition of the electrolytic capacitors. I’m happy to say there were no surprises. A true boat-anchor, this amplifier weighs 66 pounds before packing material and a carton. The amplifier is currently wired for 240 volts. I’ll provide one if I have one in my collection. Otherwise it will come with the new power cord I attached to it (the old rubber one had rotted) and tinned conductors ready to accept your connector or to be hard wired into a safety switch or fuse block. This amp is a twin to one I’ve used for years — I really don’t need two of them!! A photocopy of the instruction manual will accompany this amplifier. This is a relist! Beautiful Vintage Hammarlund HX-50 Tube-Type Amateur Radio Transmitter SSB CW AM

Beautiful working hammarlund hx-50 dating from the 1960′s. This vintage hammarlund was the home station of w5nvt, a silent key. It sat for years on a shelf in his office in his store, then after his death has sat on a shelf in my hamshack for years. I cleaned it up a bit for this listing — 4 tubes were replaced as they had low transconductance. I cannot check the 6c10 compactron as my hickok tube tester is too old. The transmitter was brought up slowly on variac over several days — and tested on cw and ssb on the 40 meter band. Good output and good sounding audio and cw signal. Note: this is a really heavy “boatanchor, ” weighing 47 pounds before packing and carton weight are added. This transmitter is guaranteed not to be dead on arrival. A spiral-bound copy of the operating/service manual is included. The manual is either an original or is one of the best copies i’ve ever seen! Important: i recognize two modifications, both reversible. The 5r4 rectifier has been replaced with solid-state diodes and a suitable dropping resistor added to compensate for the plate resistance of the 5r4 so that the b+ won’t be too high, and an additional filament transformer has been added under the chassis. Also — a second oa2 vr tube has been added — in such a professional way that it appeared to be an original stock item.
