This receiver is in fair cosmetic condition. The cabinet is dirty and has some chipped paint (common as Heathkit didn’t use primer), the faceplate is a little dirty, and it’s missing the two front feet. Inside, it contains three filters and appears complete with no signs of modification. This’ll make a great restoration candidate! This equipment came from the estate of a serious ham operator and audiophile, and has been tucked away in a storage unit for approximately 15 years. We’ve made the decision to sell this older equipment 100% as-is and untested. There are a few reasons for this, but it essentially comes down to the fact that they almost always need some level of service and it’s simply not cost effective to pay our technician to spend time going through them. It may or may not need components replaced (caps, resistors, tubes, etc), controls cleaned/lubricated, alignment, and so on. Unless you are qualified and capable of working on this unit yourself, or are willing to pay a qualified individual to do the work for you, we suggest you revisit the idea of whether this is the right equipment for you. This item will be packaged using our InstaPak foam-in-bag system, ensuring the utmost protection! Bags filled with a chemical mixture expand around your item and harden to form a protective, yet forgiving, foam barrier. IMPORTANT : You will only receive what is photographed. If it is not shown in the photos, it is not included in the sale. This includes items such as original packaging, accessories, manuals, and so on. This transceiver is dusty/dirty, as you can probably see in the photos. It’s missing a knob, but looks complete otherwise. All controls appear to be turning relatively smoothly. It has the 404-284-1 and 4042-83 filters installed. Also, the rubber pulley-strings have dried up, as is common when these have sat as long as this one has. This’ll make a great restoration piece or parts unit! This receiver is in relatively good cosmetic condition. The only real problem is that the cabinet has been repainted, and the color does not match the original color very well. Other than that, it looks complete and unmodified. It has the original serial number tag, along with another that says “SB-310-3″. I’m guessing that’s an option, but I’m not sure what it is. It has two filters installed, the 404 M 314 P 504 and the N-404-200. All controls feel smooth. This’ll make an excellent candidate for restoration! This is a vintage radio with 2 6146B tubes in the final and a 12BY7A tube as the driver. This radio looks good though it has some marks here and there. Considering its’ age, it is pretty nice. It has both the SSB and CW filters installed. The radio covers 80-10 meters minus the WARC bands (12, 17 and 60–it was made before hams were given access to those bands). It receives fine and transmits at reduced power–about 75% of full power appears at the output. The most common cause of reduced power is weakening final tubes. I have never replaced the final tubes in the 2 and a half years I have owned and used this radio so maybe their time has come. Truth be told, 75% output on this thing is probably all most of us will ever need. So you should be good to go for a long time. Also included is the AC power cord and the VFO jumper plug (this little plug is required unless you are using the external VFO). There is no DC cord included (it will run on 12VDC without any external power supply if you have that cord) nor any other accessories. Note that NO MICROPHONE OR KEY is included–you must supply those (the mic plug is the traditional 4-pin style). Lots of guys like the Astatic D-104 mic with this radio, so hat is an option. But most any common PTT hand mic will work. There is a speaker built into the radio but an external speaker was also made for it or connect any 8 ohm speaker. Look at pix and ask questions. Vintage Collins 51J-4 general coverage tube radio receiver with 3 mech filters

Vintage collins 51j-4 general coverage tube radio receiver with 3 mech filters. Collins 51j-4 general coverage communications receiver with 3 mechanical filters. Very nice working radio. Chassis is very clean with no rust – face has a couple of small marks on it. All controls are working and i was able to pull in stations on all bands. The only thing i did notice wrong was when tunning the dial towards the left in the last 2 it squeaked a little and had some resistance to it – turns towards the right just fine – so needs some adjustment. 19 rack mount with rack handles. Coverage from 540 – 30500 khz in 30 bands. Selectivity of 6 to 1 khz in plus phasing to give additional control over bandwidth. Avc on/off (automatic volume control).
