This radio works, but is probably a wonderful candidate for a full restore! The case has knicks and such, as you can see. This is highly collectible and representative of the Golden Age of radio! This radio has been in storage for many years. (Which I don’t have). The unit does have some dust and scratches / signs of wear on the cabinet. Charles and Ray Eames are well known for groundbreaking contributions to architecture, industrial design and manufacturing, and of course, furniture. “The Eames Chair” among their most famous creations. This history, drawn from the Eames Foundation operated by their descendants, relates an interesting relationship between a World War II development effort, and the development of plywood molding. After the Eames’s were married in 1941, the moved to California where they developed furniture design work molding plywood. A line of radio enclosures was among the postwar offspring of the plywood-molding process. Charles and Ray developed techniques for mass-producing plywood enclosures in significant numbers. They designed cabinet forms for manufacturers such as Bendix Corporation, Emerson Radio, Farnsworth Company, Hamilton Radio Corporation, Zenith Corporation, and many others. VINTAGE FARNSWORTH ART DECO BROWN BAKELITE RADIO MODEL ATL-12. Very rare and hard to find. This one is in great shape for its age. Please examine pictures carefully. There is a hairline flaw on the top of the case which is difficult to see. This radio has an AC cord but I have not plugged it in for fear of damaging components. This radio requires restoration of the electronics which can be accomplished with patience and a little knowledge found online. The first time I plugged it in, I got some talking, but the next time I only got humming. The second hand on the clock moves. There are some scratches and missing color present. I have a pair of very hard to find Philco electrostatic speakers. From the late 1950s. They would have gone with H1814 consoles and others. I heard some play on youtube and it sounds great. They have a very cool look. Like they could have been on Star Trek or the Jetsons. Both are in very solid condition. The color is almond or mocha and the pics make it look lighter. They show signs of use but no real damage. One of the speakers is seated slightly forward. Where the bottom corner of top rotating piece sits flush on the top of the base. The other has about a 1/4 gap (the final 2 pics) They would clean up a bit more as well with some effort. The cords are in very good condition but units are untested by me. I dont have the knowledge or equipment to test them. From the estate of a lifetime tube radio restorer. I was told by the estate they came from that they worked. They are in Seattle if you want to meet up and test them. Thanks for stopping by and have a nice day. I also have a 3rd unit with slightly different case color. One of the feet is missing as well.
