This smaller table radio is another beautifully designed model by the famed Ingraham company. The craftsmanship, creativity and attention to detail make this much more than a plain rectangular radio. It is sometimes incorrectly referred to as a model 179, as that is the is the number printed on the loop antenna. Considered a portable radio with its Bakelite handle, it is made of solid wood, not veneers and is in absolutely excellent condition. Just one look at it tells you that it is a real gem! With five tubes, it has very good sensitivity, selectivity, sound and reception. And of course a. S with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. It is doubtful that you will find another of this radio any time soon, if at all. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished, rejuvenated and balanced. The bottom and top trim were redone with black lacquer to match the original finish as well as the polished black knobs and handle. The entire cabinet was then given eight coats of clear lacquer with excellent results. The dial face is in excellent condition with crisp and clear graphics that are nicely lighted. The dial pointer was polished. The dial cover has been replaced and is crystal clear. T he knobs are original and have been polished. A new Emerson decal was applied. The back cover has been replaced, as has the power cord. The original bottom felt pads are in excellent condition and were not replaced. As you can see from the photos, this is an exceptional radio. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna. There is an additional wire that can be connected to a longer wire as an external antenna if needed for your location. This is a very desirable radio with a charming presence and it. Certainly demands a place of distinction. Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories this wonderful radio has broadcast. This radio would be a wonderful as a gift or as an addition to a collection. Years old and newly restored inside and out, it will continue to provide many more years of reliable enjoyment if well cared for. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off.
