The Radio was for many years the center of the Home for news, humor and comedy, amateur and professional talent, etc. As it was more than two decades later before television surpassed it. As You can see here aesthetics were also an important feature in addition to the broadcast. The builder of this radio was aiming his market at upper middle class families and professional people. The primary wood for this cabinet is heavy walnut adorned with intricate strips of the same and other woods with fine ornamental decorations. The front is bird’s – eye maple with a harp motif. The finish is great and original, no wood missing, not to be refinished! There are a few(two I believe) hairline cracks in the Harp which could easily be glued. The name “BEVERLY” and the 2 control knobs and tuner are bronze and the areas surrounding the knobs are also. The back and inside are clean. The inside of the back looks cluttered because there are two coiled wires, one being the antenna, the other is the cord, gently stored there. It works with a low or high hum, but needs one inexpensive radio tube(these tubes are the elongated teardrop type, some with metal half shields). She played well when I bought Her some 12 years ago. With a “10″ being the rarest on a 1-10 scale, it rates a 9-9.5 where a RCA radio would be a 2 and an Atwater-Kent radio would be a 10.0. As for condition it would rank a “9″ or higher. I cannot lift due to a bad spine. You may preview it with 24 hours notice.
