To view our other auctions including additional restored antique radios, grill cloth, and supplies. Cabinet: The two tone American Walnut cabinet is quite a stunner! Gorgeous wood grain flows throughout the entire set. The tombstone design with rounded sides and a step up top reminds you of why Zenith was second to none when it came to craftsmanship. A large Art Deco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the speaker. Grooved pinstripe inlays and a dowel studded base finish the cabinet off with class and style. You’ll be the envy of all with this masterpiece proudly displayed in any room of your home or office. Dial & Knobs: This set features Zenith’s highly desirable racetrack dial. The large oval design resembles the shape of a racetrack, thus the nickname. It illuminates nice and bright with two dial lamps. It boasts a classic gold color with the broadcast and shortwave scales represented in a unique font that provides an elegant touch. All letters and numbers are legible and show virtually no signs of wear. The dial glass is clear and free from any chips, breaks or cracks. The sleek’Z’ pointer moves nice and smooth around the entire dial. A shiny brass escutcheon surrounds the dial and houses 5 fully functional pushbuttons for automatic tuning. The four ivory’Z’ knobs control on/off, tone, tuning and band switch. A small chip in the tuning knob base has been resin filled and blended. Although the automatic tuning is fully functional, it is recommended you use the manual tuning knob due to the age and delicacy of the mechanism. If you do choose to use the auto feature the pushbuttons will need to be preset to your local stations and should be done by a professional. Grill Cloth: The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring an antique gold color with a black wave / swirl design. Chassis: All tubes in the 5 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. Using the included copper line antenna the radio provides outstanding performance. The Cabinets Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. Dimensions: 11 1/2″ W x 15 3/4 H x 7 1/2″ D.
