I will be listing a broad and diverse range of vintage communications and technology items, related books, periodicals and ephemera… This is one of the finest loop antennas I have ever seen! It is incredible and was manufactured in Berlin by the Deutsche Telephonwerke und Kablelindustrie A. And stands 41″ tall and 39″ wide. The sleek mahogany support system is magnificently designed and is fully collapsible… Even the feet fold over as you can see in the photos!! The three-footed base includes a metal engraved directional wheel and pointer. Finish and materials are all original. There is some fraying to the original silk wire as you can see in the photos, but there are no splices or repairs. All the metallic pieces are clean and functional, bindng posts are all present and spring loaded supports are operating as new. All these components are also original. One of the wooden washers has a hairline crack that has been glued but not noticeable without close inspection. This loop anteanna is simply a work of engineering art! Interestingly, the sole importer for the USA and Canada of this device was the Tobe C. Of Boston, and later, Canton, MA. The Sales Manager at Tobe C. Since the company made radio components and imported technical and radio apparatus, they opened a store in downtown Boston called: “The Radio Shack”!! And yes, Tobe went on to be a founder of Radio Shack! And, Bill went on to form The Hallicrafters Company in 1933!! Deutschmann Laboratories was a renouned supplier of components for US military radar during WWII. The company was also recognized for developing and supplying a filter device that suppressed the static that jeopardized radio communication between US Army tanks opposing the Germans in North Africa. It’s amazing that this loop could have so much history surrounding the journey from Berlin to Boston in the early 1920′s! That’s about it… I hope she finds a good home!
