We offer Quality Antique Radios. To view our other antique radio auctions, as well as antique radio grill cloth. Here we have an absolutely gorgeous 1934 Grunow model 460 Tombstone / Cathedral table radio. Grunow produced this cabinet in two versions. The first being a plain walnut and the second a rare Bird’s Eye Maple. This is the Bird’s Eye Maple version and it is absolutely breathtaking. The Bird’s Eye grain is so prominent it stops you in your tracks each time you pass by. At only 13 inches high, the cabinet can be classified as a mini tombstone, or cathedral due to the rounded sides. A large Art Deco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the unusually large speaker. Jet black trim and an attractive center diamond grill design finishes the cabinet off with elegance and style. This rarely seen radio is sure to be the main attraction of any room in the home or office you choose to display it in. The round backlit dial lights nice and bright with a warm orange glow. All letters and numbers indicating station frequencies are legible and show virtually no signs of wear. The Grunow logo graces the center along with the sleek airplane style pointer. The dial cover is clear and free from any chips, cracks or breaks. All three wood knobs are in great shape and control the following: tuning, on/off and volume. The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a whiskey. Gold color with an Art Deco geometric design. All tubes in the 4 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. For a small 4 tube chassis it performs exceptionally well. The Cabinets Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. 10W x 13H x 6 1/2D.
