Braun his time was far ahead. The design was already trendsetting in the late fifties. Radios from other manufacturers were still in furniture in the so-called “Gelsenkirchen Baroque”. For these reasons, Braun-Radios were mainly bought by the avantgarde, for example, by doctors, lawyers, architects or higher officials. Some models of the house Braun located in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The housing is made of wood. This combination has some special features. The combination consists radio, record player and speaker. The radio and turntable are visible protected by an acrylic cover. Please note the technical equipment was developed about sixty years ago. The radio has the typical design of Hans Gugelot, he designed 1955 the Music cabinet Phonosuper SK4, consisting of a wooden cabinet made of maple and is fitted with a tube radio chassis, a record player and broadband speaker. It just fits into any living room. This radio is pleasent and certainly is an eye-catcher. The housing is made of metal, the side parts are made of wood and the cover. Made of acrylic glass. The cabinet and the cover have signs of wear. I cleaned the chassis as well as the housing very carefully, but traces of age and use can be seen. Because of their age many electronic components are subject to deterioration and wear. For theses reasons I have these parts replaced with high-quality, new components. All have been carefully restored and works very well. After all, it is nearly sixty years old. However, I would point out that the combination, perhaps sometime in the future, may have an error. But even in this case a solution is possible. Attached are the service manuals and schematics, so a good technician can perform possible repairs. Still, if you have any questions about this wonderful device, please contact me. The radio does not have built-in antennas. Please note this is a Europaen model, FM works up to 104MHz (almost up to 105MHz). A few words about me. I’m radio and television master of the “old school”. The training in Germany will be made dual. This is of great advantage. It means the trainee is formed parallel in the company and at school. The company provides practical knowledge and the school teaches the theoretical fundamentals. After three and a half years there is a final exam in theory and practice. By the master exam is possible to open his own business and young people to train. My training in the craft began in 1967 as the tube technology was at its peak. Over time I have repaired several thousand devices expertly. All offered radios are in my collection for decades. Now I reduce my collection and offering some special pieces here. I will gladly answer your questions about tube radios. I´m using a check-list with many points for all work which has to be done in an old tube-radio. The furniture was cleaned and polished, but I get his old patina. The finish is original, certainly has the crazing in the finish that is so common to these radios, but it is still shiny and attractive. The original bottom panel is also in place. Please look to the pictures carefully. Traces of use the radio shows make it a beautiful antique. This beauty radio with it’s lovely furniture, dial glass and furniture must not be damaged. I will package this radio personally to make sure it is done correctly. My packing is perfect, see the pictures and my feedback. This is a used radio from my collection and it is offered by private. Usual signs of use are not listed separately and are no cause for complaint. Your questions will be answered professionally. Braun, some interesting facts. The company Max Braun oHG was founded in 1921 by the engineer Max Braun in Frankfurt. 1923 constructed Max Brown his first radio and produced for the expanding radio industry tube socket and accessories. The great success encouraged him to move already two years later in a new factory building. There, the production of an amplifier for the sound of large events began. At the end of the decade, Brown took over the production of radio receivers in license by Carl Sevecke. With the beginning of 1933 the development and production of self-developed radio began. These were the models Mozart, Edel-Super and Super W4, and the production of the Volksempfänger. The first predecessor of SK55 was music combination Phono-Super 637GW. At 1936, the first portable radios were designed and manufactured. Due to the war years the company Braun had to take over the production of armaments. In 1944 the Frankfurt factories were destroyed by air raids. The production facilities were built after the war. In addition to other equipment there began the production of the first dry shaver Model 50S. After the sudden death of Max Braun 1951 (he was only 61 years old) took his sons Artur and Erwin Braun company. Erwin Braun formed the appearance of the company completely around. He changed the face in the company and unified the product range. A fundamentally new was the thought to establish a department for design. Here new products should be developed, which should be distinguished by a different appearance from the crowd of other manufacturers. It emerged in teamwork most products and designs. Very farsighted was also collaborating with the School of Design in Ulm, Germany, here the foundations were laid for the world-famous Braun design. Important names for product design were beside Fritz Eichler, also Hans Gugelot, Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Herbert Hirche and Dieter Rams. Early pioneering products in the radio range are the small tube radio SK 1 and the radio-phonograph combination series “PK-G”. Reactions to the straightforward style, which was characterized by its clear forms, could not be greater. Some loved the Braun design, others despised him. It was especially the elite who was enthusiastic about the design and was in accordance with purchasing power. Only gradually copied some manufacturers the design, it was the so-called Nordic style in the sixties. The last Braun appliances with the model name Atelier was delivered in the year 1990.
