The knobs work as designed with no slipping and there is no hum. Its amazing to find such an old survivor in original condition still working as well as this Detrola and it looks stunning! As you may know, Detrolas are special radios and hold a special place with many collectors with Detroit being the industrial engine which powered America to victory in WW2 and contributed to the post war economic BOOM times. Founded in 1931 in Detroit Michigan. Detrola built radios under a variety of private brand names as well as under their own moniker. Up to 90% of radio production was for private brand names. Detrola laid claim to having one of the worlds largest output of radios by the middle 1930′s. Some estimates claim their production may have been the 6th largest. The company merged with International Machine Tool, INC. During World War 2 resulting in a big conglomerate that was involved in many fields including building military equipment for the war effort. The new name of the company became International Detrola. Sadly, with increasing competition from mass market radio manufactures such as Philco, RCA, & Zenith, it was difficult to compete and the Detrola radio assembly lines fell silent by 1948. During their short run they made quite an impact and made a lot of radios. T oday, Detrola radios are some of the most sought after antique radios by collectors – coveted for their unique Art Deco designs and due to their scarcity. Working examples are quite rare. As with any radio 75 old there are going to be some blemishes and imperfections on the top, sides, back, bottom, and front but nothing that detracts from the overall look of the radio. The plug is in good condition and still pliable and no cracks, the original dial face is in nice condition, as is the dial cover. The knobs look to be original. The tube compliment are as follows: 1A7GT 1N5GT 1H5GT 3Q5GT 117N7GT. It is a beautiful functional piece of art perfect for any collector who loves rare pre WWII radios made at the end of the Art Deco period of design. You will love its uniqueness, and will listen to it for many years to come. Dimensions are 14 in length X 10 high X 6 in depth. I use plenty of Bubble Wrap, extra padding and double box or use extra box support material. It will be marked Fragile & This side up on the box to make sure it is handled carefully. The radio is fully insured. A small sampling of my feedback. Best packaging ever for a vintage radio – I really appreciate it. Fantastic radio as advertised, careful and thoughtful packaging. If there are any problems, please contact me and we can review options.
