It has all of its original external components with the exception of the grille cloth which is a period appropriate replacement. The cord/plug is original as are the knobs. It sounds good and pulls in all my local stations. When using an external antenna, it pulls in stations from far away much better and will also pull in shortwave, I was able to pull in Radio Havana Cuba at night, and some US stations 900 miles away. Though it was feint, as I was only using a 10 foot wire I clipped on with alligator clips to the back (Not included). A longer antenna will pull in SW stations even better. These RCA Victor 118s are becoming. Less and less common, and they are uncommon with any kind of servicing or cosmetic refinishing. The RCA Victor 118 is quite collectible and sought after for its round airplane dial, and the art deco details that went into the cabinet. NOTE that this is a BIG Tombstone and it stands out. At 18 inches tall and 15 inches wide and 10 inches deep – it has quite a presence and will be a centerpiece in your home or office! Theres no doubt this radio must have broadcast such notable 1934 historical events as Hitler becoming the supreme leader of Germany , the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is established to regulate communications, & Bonnie and Clyde were ambushed by lawmen in Louisiana as well as John Dillinger being shot outside a Chicago movie theater! The finish looks great as it was refinished using quality stains and lacquer. Servicing Details: The tubes were checked and two were replaced with new old stock tubes, the dial light was replaced, the tuning and volume controls were cleaned and lubricated to eliminate any scratchiness while turning the knobs, and the chassis was lightly cleaned. The dial is clear and the metal bezel has age appropriate patina. It has a functioning dial light which shows the remarkable dial detail. There are a few blemishes and imperfections on the top, sides, front, back, and bottom, including the veneer imperfection on the top. Its tight and stable. When turning stations, the dial scale moves slightly. Overall, there is nothing that detracts from the overall look it looks remarkable! The grille cloth is not original and was replaced with a period appropriate replacement. It still has its original cloth cord it is in fair condition in a couple spots the outer layer of cloth is starting to give but it still has its inner layer covering the wires I decided to keep it original because it is functioning and preferred by many collectors. The dial needle moves in sync with the tuning knob as designed and it is in good condition as is the dial scale. Note: in 1934 BIG Console radios were still the big sellers of this era so this Tombstone may seem big by todays standards but was considered relatively compact in the early to late 1930s. This model is hard to find in this kind of condition. And we are offering it with. All external components are original with the exception of the grille cloth. This RCA Victor is a rare opportunity for a collector to have a true classic in their collection!
